Edmund Genier (right), then vice president for real estate, with assistance of Terry Meinders place Kissing Lane sign outside the tower. In 1982, Dr. John Pierson, who coordinated the American United Life Insurance Company® (AUL) move downtown, referred to the pick-up and drop-off lane on the north side of the building, as the “kissing lane.” The name caught on with employees, and in 1992, Edmund Genier (right in picture), then vice president for real estate, with assistance of Terry Meinders, one of the building maintenance staff, erected this sign, making the name official. It’s more than just symbolic, it’s actually on the official map of directions for OneAmerica® Tower. You simply have to travel east down West New York Street and take a slight right into the lane. The same street sign has been there.
