The Indianapolis Public Library, Library Foundation and OneAmerica® are teaming up to inspire a summer filled with good reads and good eats for a stronger, healthier Indianapolis community.

OneAmerica announced today it will serve as presenting sponsor for the 2017 Summer Reading Program. The company is increasing its support of the popular program over previous years in honor of Jim Freeman, retiring OneAmerica Vice President of Community Affairs.

The 2017 Summer Reading Program, themed “Read It & Eat,” invites children of all ages, teens and adults to experience the joy of reading and share in the spirit of philanthropy. Children who participate can earn points for reading books and exchange their points for prizes. Participants also can earn points by donating food items to Gleaners Food Bank. Those wishing to participate may register at their local Indianapolis Public Library branch. During the 2016 Summer Reading Program, more than 50,000 children and families read nearly one million books.

“OneAmerica is delighted to expand our 2017 sponsorship of the Summer Reading Program. We have long supported this summertime staple for Indianapolis students because we know it contributes to a more vibrant community. And this year, we are pleased to provide program sponsorship in honor of Jim Freeman, OneAmerica Vice President of Community Affairs, who will retire at the end of May from a successful career spent serving the Indianapolis community,” said Kelly Huntington, OneAmerica Senior Vice President, Enterprise Strategy.

Freeman, who has represented OneAmerica in the community for 28 years, first became involved with The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation in the early 1990s. He has been a longtime supporter and partner of the Library and the Foundation, primarily with the Summer Reading Program, and was presented the Luminary Award by the Foundation in 2016.

“Tens of thousands of young readers have benefitted from Jim Freeman’s dedication to The Indianapolis Public Library’s mission and to the Indianapolis community during his career. This sponsorship is a fitting way to celebrate his legacy, and we look forward to seeing just how many more pages will turn this summer as a result of OneAmerica’s continued commitment,” said Roberta Jaggers, President of The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
