Gene P. BerrySenior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
As senior vice president and chief information officer for the OneAmerica companies, Gene’s primary job is aligning overall technology direction with the OneAmerica business strategy while providing leadership to the IT community. He leads the information technology council that sets overall technology strategy and direction for OneAmerica and the project evaluation and prioritization committee that reviews large scale initiatives for the enterprise. He is a member of OneAmerica’s enterprise strategy and product review committees and is also a member of the company’s senior leadership team.
Gene joined OneAmerica in April of 2010 and has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of IT and operational positions.
Gene began his career with Alcoa Aluminum in 1980 as a systems analyst and became their Premium Castings Division MIS Supervisor in 1984.
In 1987, Gene joined Fremont Life Insurance Company as manager of life systems and eventually become vice president of IT and policyowner services. At Fremont Life, Gene planned and implemented the conversion of all life insurance and financial systems to an IBM midrange platform that helped the company reduce its IT budget by 35 percent.
In 1994, Gene joined Shenandoah Life Insurance Company as their vice president and chief information officer and led the company’s conversion off of the mainframe to a state-of-the-art midrange platform that increased productivity throughout the company while lowering systems expenses. In 1999 Gene was promoted to senior vice president.
Gene has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in computer science from The Ohio State University and a Masters Degree in business administration and finance from The California State University, Fullerton.
