Sandy McCarthy

President, Retirement Services

As President of Retirement Services, Sandy McCarthy leads all Retirement Services business for OneAmerica®. Under her leadership, the company offers defined contribution and defined benefits services with a strong focus on customized retirement plans through highly personalized administration, record-keeping and institutional services. She brings more than 30 years of industry experience, including key leadership roles at Mercer, ING (now Voya), and CitiStreet.

Before OneAmerica, Sandy was a senior partner at Mercer for seven years, where she served as North America Region Benefits Administration Business Leader. In addition, she previously served as Mercer’s CEO and board member of its Asia-Pacific Outsourcing Business in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to these roles, Sandy was a 21-year contributor at ING and its legacy companies, serving as president of Institutional Plan Services. She also was the president and board member of CitiStreet, LLC, prior to its acquisition by ING in 2008. In the past, she also held leadership positions with Fidelity Investments, Bank of America and State Street.

Sandy graduated with honors from Tufts University, earning both her undergraduate in sociology/education and Master of Arts degree in education. She then completed an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She served on the boards of directors of the American Benefits Council, Employee Benefits Research Institute, Spark Institute, Boys and Girls Club of Middlesex County Massachusetts and the Beverly School for the Deaf. Sandy was also a founding member of the Superannuation Industry Leadership Group in Australia.

She currently serves on the board of trustees for the American Red Cross of Indiana, Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, Employee Benefit Research Institute and LIMRA/LOMA Secure Retirement Institute, which includes being the vice chair of the Secure Retirement Institute and Executive Committee for Financial Wellness.

In 2020 Sandy received the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Women of Influence Award, which recognizes female leaders who have risen to the highest levels of business, the arts and community and public service in central Indiana.
