School: Purdue University
OneAmerica Dept.: Individual Life and Financial Services - Security
Why did you choose to spend your summer at OneAmerica? To get practical experience in IT security and I had interned at OneAmerica last year.
What is something you wish you would have brought or done differently on your first day? I was very unsure what to wear for the First Best Day (picture day), unsure to dress up or down and what was expected.
Describe OneAmerica culture in one word: Encouraging
Best piece of advice you were given during your internship? From (OneAmerica Enterprise Applications leader) Jerry Quinn, “Always make relationships and never close the relationship for good if you don’t have to.”
What about your experience at OneAmerica would interest you in a future career here? OneAmerica wants to build its associates up and cares a lot about employees, not just as a resource, but as people that have career aspirations. It helps to develop them in that way. The first time as an intern I didn’t have career interest in the field I was in, so my second year they helped to find an internship in an area that I was more interested in.
What tip would you give to those interviewing for internships next summer? Research the company, which should be done for any job interview. I accidentally referred to OneAmerica as a “bank” in my interview. #NotABank
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?: "Sour Patch Kids" by Bryce Vine
Favorite sports team: Cloud9
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, who would it be and why? Amelia Earhart. I’d like to talk to her about her career, and ask her what Purdue was like back when she was a professor.
