For Immediate Release:

Indianapolis (March 30, 2011) – OneAmerica is one of four organizations to be recognized with a 2011 Spirit United award from the United Way of Central Indiana. OneAmerica was chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 eligible companies and was cited by the United Way for its exemplary commitment to volunteer and financial support of United Way’s mission and priorities.

“On behalf of OneAmerica’s 1,600 employees, who mostly live and work in Central Indiana, we are honored to be recognized as a Spirit United honoree,” said Dayton Molendorp, chairman, president and CEO. “We look forward to continuing our work of exemplifying the important LIVE UNITED messages of ‘giving,’ ‘advocating,’ and ‘volunteering.’”

Over the years, OneAmerica has contributed millions of dollars to the United Way of Central Indiana, topping $300,000 in employee contributions for the first time in 2010. These contributions are matched dollar-for-dollar with funds from The OneAmerica Foundation, Inc. OneAmerica employees also participated in the United Way’s annual Day of Caring, working to spruce up a local Boys and Girls Club.

To be eligible for Spirit United, a company had to provide financial support and resources above and beyond a successful workplace campaign. Among other things, OneAmerica’s additional support included significant volunteer participation and a commitment to United Way’s Ready to Learn, Ready to Earn program. The nominees also must have won the Company that Cares award for the past three years, which recognizes companies that make exceptional commitments through United Way campaigns and partnerships.

“We are proud to have received the Company that Cares award each year for as long as the award has been in existence,” said Jim Freeman, OneAmerica’s vice president of community affairs. “It reflects the solid example set by our company leadership and the strong commitment and concern for others found throughout our entire workforce.”

Spirit United recipients were chosen by a volunteer task force from among United Way’s for-profit supporters. More information on the United Way of Central Indiana’s awards and initiatives can be found at www.uwci.org.
