OneAmerica to Help Local High-Risk Children through New Sponsorship

U.S. Dream Academy to open local branch at John Marshall Middle School

Indianapolis, November 7, 2007

More than 10 Million American children currently have, or have had, a parent incarcerated. Not only do these children suffer stress, anxiety and depression due to having a parent in prison, they are much more likely to become incarcerated themselves1. In an effort to end this cycle, OneAmerica has teamed up with the U.S. Dream Academy to support its first program in an Indianapolis school at John Marshall Middle School.

Through an academic and social enrichment after school program, children will be exposed to an intense curriculum of values training, mentoring and technology immersion for up to 17 hours every week.

“This program equips children with the knowledge and confidence necessary to succeed,” said OneAmerica chairman, president and CEO Dayton H. Molendorp. “I believe the Indy Dream Academy will make a lasting difference in the lives of at-risk children.”

The U.S. Dream Academy accepts children between the ages of seven and 14 who have at least one parent incarcerated or who have a family history of incarceration for its programs. Programs include dream building to help set positive goals, tutoring for underperforming children, character building, computer training, one-on-one mentoring and help learning to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

The Indy Dream Academy is expected to open in the spring of 2008.
