OneAmerica® launches 2005 fundraising campaign to benefit United Way
Four local agencies, four employees receive OneAmerica-style “extreme makeovers”
Indianapolis -- September 13, 2005
Four employees of American United Life Insurance Company® (AUL), a OneAmerica® company, are trading their office cubicles for mini-makeover styling stations on Sept. 20 to help boost staff contributions to the United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI).
They will spend the morning undergoing hair, make-up and wardrobe transformations and reveal their new looks during OneAmerica’s annual United Way Agency Fair, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at OneAmerica Tower in downtown Indianapolis. About 800 AUL employees are expected to attend.
The agency fair is the main event of OneAmerica’s yearly push to raise money for United Way’s Annual Campaign. It brings employees face-to-face with UWCI agency representatives to learn more about the organizations and how they benefit from contributions.
For more than a decade, AUL has ranked among the top 10 largest UWCI contributors; employees currently rank third among annual individual donors of $1,000 or more. Last year, 640 enterprise employees contributed more than $256,000, matched dollar-for-dollar by corporate funds. Retirees also contributed $22,300.
"The OneAmerica companies are proud United Way supporters and we look forward to continuing our strong tradition of contributing to their annual campaign," said Dayton Molendorp, AUL president and CEO.
OneAmerica’s 2005 campaign theme – Extreme Makeover: OneAmerica Edition – is a twist on the popular Extreme Makeover television show and its spin-off series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
"The popularity of the Extreme Makeover programs prompted us to capitalize on their momentum to increase employee awareness of United Way’s positive impact on our communities," said Angela Trefethen, an AUL vice president and chairwoman of OneAmerica’s 2005 campaign. "This annual initiative has given hundreds of OneAmerica employees the opportunity to develop personal relationships with the United Way agencies that improve the lives of so many people."
Nearly 100 AUL employees volunteered four Saturdays this summer to renovate the modest worksites of four UWCI organizations – Goodwill Industries, Crooked Creek Multi-Service Center, Noble of Indiana and Hawthorne Community Center, all of which are expected to participate in the agency fair. Employees cleaned and reorganized office spaces and tidied landscapes, among other tasks.
Another 45 employees designated as corporate ambassadors will volunteer Sept. 16 at three other Indianapolis-based social service organizations as part of UWCI’s Annual Day of Caring.
Other 2005 fundraising activities include a Sept. 21 plant sale and a Nov. 17 silent auction; proceeds will benefit UWCI.
