AUL reports strong 2009 finish Sales and distribution growth reach record levels

Indianapolis (March 29, 2010) – Despite continued economic uncertainty, American United Life Insurance Company® (AUL), a OneAmerica company, has reported a record year for 2009 that includes a 33 percent growth rate in life sales and a 56 percent growth in its agency distribution system.

“We felt it was important to stick to our strategy despite the distractions of a struggling economy, and it paid off,” said AUL Senior Vice President Mark Wilkerson. “That meant playing to our strengths as a mutual organization and providing customers with a financially strong, conservatively managed company that offers sound planning options, regardless of the environment.”

According to industry data provided by LIMRA, AUL’s life and annuity sales far outpaced the industry in 2009. AUL’s life insurance sales grew by 33 percent, compared to a 16 percent decline in life sales across the industry. While the industry average for annuity sales was down 11 percent for the year, AUL’s sales were up 17 percent.

“Our success in 2009 was not the result of doing anything different, but continuing to do the right things even more effectively,” continued Wilkerson. “We grew distribution by adding exceptional financial representatives that meet our high standards, building long-term relationships with customers based on trust and backing up our commitments with one of the strongest and fastest-growing organizations in the industry.”
